Compressed Sofas

A compressed sofa is a full-size sofa that has been compacted under controlled pressure and sealed for transport, so it ships in a fraction of its finished volume. Once unpacked it expands back to its intended shape, dimensions and comfort.

Air is removed from the foam and filling under controlled conditions and the sofa is vacuum-wrapped and boxed. When the wrap is cut, the foam draws air back in and gradually recovers its original loft. The frame and structure are engineered for this process from the outset.

Most designs reach the majority of their shape within a few hours and full loft within 24 to 72 hours in a warm room. Cold rooms slow the process considerably — if the sofa has travelled in winter, let it reach room temperature before judging it.

Yes. Comfort comes from foam density, seat geometry and frame construction, none of which compression changes. A well-made compressed sofa is indistinguishable from a conventionally delivered one once it has fully expanded.

With high-density foam, an engineered frame and quality upholstery, the same lifespan you would expect from conventional upholstery of equivalent specification. Rotating and plumping the cushions regularly makes a measurable difference over the years.

They are arguably the best option for small apartments. The compact package clears tight stairwells, small lifts and standard doorways, and our compact and convertible designs are proportioned specifically for smaller rooms.

In one or two protective cartons depending on the model, by standard courier or freight. Because the packages are compact, delivery is usually far simpler than for conventional upholstery and rarely requires specialist handling.

Move the carton to the room where the sofa will live before opening it — it is much easier to carry compressed. Remove the outer carton, then carefully cut the compression wrap without cutting into the upholstery, and allow the sofa to expand.

Give it a full 72 hours in a warm room first. Gently massage and plump the affected area to help the foam draw air. If a section is still visibly compressed after that, contact us with photographs and we will advise.

Vacuum weekly with an upholstery attachment, blot spills immediately rather than rubbing, rotate and plump cushions monthly, and keep the sofa out of prolonged direct sunlight. Fabric-specific care guidance is supplied with every order.
