Importing Hygiene Products from China: Buyer Checklist
A practical hygiene sourcing checklist covering product briefs, sample approvals, documentation, packing, customs review and shipment responsibilities.
Start with the product and the market
Write the intended use, user group, destination and proposed label claims before requesting quotations. A wash-off soap, a surface cleaner, a hand antiseptic and a protective mask do not share one regulatory route. Provide the product format and a specific application rather than asking for a generic compliant hygiene product.
Make supplier quotations comparable
Specify quantities by item and packaging configuration. Separate formula or product development, component tooling, decoration, samples, inspection and freight. Ask which work is included, who performs it and what approvals determine the schedule. No universal MOQ or lead time applies to every hygiene product.
Ask for product-specific information
Request ingredient or material information, the exact product specification and supporting records appropriate to the product. For chemicals, ask whether an SDS is required and obtain the current document where applicable. A COA reports defined batch results; it is not a substitute for destination authorization or every required test.
Approve samples and packaging together
Keep the approved sample version, formula or material reference, fill size, dispenser, closure, label and carton information together. Evaluate dispensing, compatibility, leakage protection and the intended use conditions. Define which supplier changes require new approval.
Confirm responsibilities before ordering
Identify the legal manufacturer, exporter and destination importer. Assign the market review, label approval, product evidence, customs classification, transport assessment and inspection release. Ask qualified specialists to verify the exact product route before relying on a supplier statement.
Plan packing and freight for the actual goods
Provide mixture details, packaging and shipment dimensions to the freight provider. Alcohol-containing or other hazardous goods may need a dangerous-goods assessment and specific packaging or documentation. The SDS, where applicable, helps the review; the carrier must confirm acceptance for the actual shipment.
Prepare a receiving and reorder record
Compare the delivered goods with approved references and record any issues promptly. Retain product versions, packing specifications and batch identifiers where relevant. Review a new formulation, supplier, closure or claim as a change requiring assessment, not as an automatic equivalent.
